On June 7, Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign. That was the official terminology used during her speech. In plain terms, Hillary Clinton lost to Barack Obama.
How does one go on when experiencing defeat so publicly? Let me offer two possible ways:
- Recognize (and be thankful) for what was accomplished - In Hillary's case, the media, along with many of her supporters, have chosen to highlight how far she went and how her efforts will inspire future generations to set no limits to their professional aspirations. If you almost got the job or the client, take a moment to acknowledge what worked.
- Make a positive and memorable exit - There is no way out of this. You must swallow your bruised ego and put on a brave face. Otherwise, your bitterness is all everyone will remember.
