Dealing with Rejection

If it is any consolation, every one has experienced rejection in one way or another.  Even Harvard students are coming to this realization according to an article in The Boston Globe.

Rejection

The article does a good job in suggesting reflection and introspection as ways to learn from the experience.

April 17, 2009: The Day of Silence

Have you ever been bullied, taunted or harassed by others? Most of us have in one way or another. Whether in school or at work, we have either been the witness, perpetrator or recipient of someone's mean comments or actions. Sometimes it make have been a subtle comment or a blank stare. Other times it may have been a more explicit action like an insult.
Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover could not take the bullying anymore. The eleven-year-old boy hung himself last week. The Day of Silence is an effort to create awareness about the bullying, harassment, name-calling and violence that students see and face in our schools. Consider participating tomorrow and help raise awareness by remaining silent as much as you can throughout the day. Say a prayer for Carl and his family. What Are Your Personal Toxic Assets?

The phrase, 'toxic asset' has become so overly used that it even has a Wikipedia entry

Every time I hear the term, I think about the personal toxic assets we own.  Think about it for a minute.  The government is frantically trying to figure out what to do with the financial toxic assets that contributed to the current economic downturn.  Meanwhile, our very own toxic assets sometimes stay with us a life time.

You may be wondering, what personal toxic assets?

My personal favorite is the 'yeah, but.'  We say it to ourselves or we hear it from others.  Every time we muster the courage to think or articulate our desire to pursue a new interest or take steps to improve our health, professional lives, the yeah, but monster stops by for a visit.   This self-defeating voice is responsible for many unfulfilled dreams.

What other toxic assets may be lurking around in your personal and professional life?
